I am having problems with my ZBook G3 laptop screen and accompanying Thunderbolt dock. As a background, I have a dual 24" monitor standing desk at my workstation and usually don't use my laptop screen because of being up and down all day. I usually shut my computer down once a week, and upon returning to work, turn my computer back on using the Thuderbolt dock (this is easier than rearranging my desk to be able to open the laptop and press the power button). This poses an issue, however, as doing this prevents my laptop screen from displaying anything. Regardless of whether I undock my computer first to take to a meeting, or try to use it as a third monitor, nothing shows up on the screen. The backlit keyboard will light up and the screen will turn on, but only to a blank, black display. To remedy this, I have to do a power cycle with the laptop screen open, but this is an absolute mess if I was working on anything when I undocked my computer, because I can't save anything if I can't see the screen.
I've tried to go through our local IT to resolve this, but updating drivers is about the best they can do. That has been done a few times and each time has not helped my issue. I'm currently on my second G3 computer - third motherboard total - and second dock over the course of 1.5 years. My biggest problem with this G3 and Thunderbolt dock is the undocking and re-docking issue which defeats the purpose of having it. I have several colleagues who still have the ZBook G2 with accompanying dock and they refuse to upgrade until they are forced to do so because of the problems they have seen with my G3 ZBook and my other co-workers' G3 ZBooks.
