HP Thunderbolt docking G2 230W - DP DVI adapter. Screen resolution

$

Hi.

My brand new 15 Zbook G5 machines came with a Thunderbolt G2 230W dockingstation.

I am using Displayport-DVI adapters for my older 1920x1200 24" monitors. Windows is not able to recognize 1920x1200 as a valid or recommended screen resolution for these screens when it goes through DP-DVI adpater. Tested with another 24" with DP port, and it instantly worked. So if you have any idea on how to get the DP-DVI adapter to work properly, im all ears.

So, I wanted to update the Dock firmware to latest version, but all you guys list on the driver page for the G2 Thunderbolt docking, is audio and network drivers? When checking my 15Zbook G5 I find a Thunderbolt firmware update tool, which just proclaims it is unable to identify the dockingstation being connected, and asks me to plug it in... This while displaying image on two screens, and using usb and ethernet via the dock.

ProBook 6470b: Led screen panel: dots and lines which appears/disappears and moves…

On my laptop, since some months, I noticed a  strange thing: on the LED screen panel I noticed that black spots appeared on the screen:  little black dots and lines: to map them I made a simple image on which I higlighted them. Well: currently, eg, a black spot is gone, but in another position is appeared a little black line (like a tiny scars). To evidence this i made a photograph to the screen, this is what I mean:

LED_screen_panel_map.jpg(click on the image to enalrge this photo)

On the left red circle, until a month ago, there was a black spot; since some days is no longer present. Today, instead, is appeared the scar on the right. Whats is happening? The screen panel is going to die? There is something that I can attempt to do before to replace the panel? (And would be enough? I ask to myself if is an hardware problem: these elements on the screen are also present when I enter inside the BIOS).

Unable to update firmware for HP 2013 UltraSlim Docking Station with EliteBook 840 G5 Notebook PC

We are using EliteBook 840 G5 Notebook PC with HP 2013 UltraSlim Docking Station.

We tried to use the HP Thunderbolt 3 Dock Firmware but the problem is that it won't let us update.

screen.PNG

We cannot select any Device to check the Existing Version. It's just impossible to select the checkbox.

As per install instructions we have:

- Supported OS -> Windows 10

- USB-C capable HP Commercial notebook

- We are docked to HP ZBook or Elite Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station running on A/C power

- We have A DisplayPort Display attached and running on an HP ZBook or Elite Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station.

- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 is installed (it's installed by default on windows 10)

The main problem is that if we close the lid to put the notebook to sleep and than we use the power on button on docking station to wake the notebook up the displays connected via displayports starts moving vertically (up and down) very quickly. In some cases it starts flickering up to a point where it's impossible to even shutdown the computer.

Please help.

Zbook Studio G5: Fingerprint not working & bad battery life!

$

Hi everyone,

I received my brand new Zbook Studio G5 about a month ago, and since day one I am facing two major problem with it;  The first problem is that the built-in fingerprint sensor does not seem to work at all and Windows Hello dose not see it!!  Only Face Recognition appears under the Windows Hello settings!

The second problem is the poor battery life.  I get a maximum of around 4 hours for only YouTube and web browsing when the battery mode slider is set to "Best battery life" and screen brightness is set to 75%.  That is far away from the maximum advertised battery life of 16 hours!!!  My older Zbook 15 G1 was getting an average of 8 hours for the same type of usage!

I have already reset and restored the laptop to its factory state two times, and that did not solve the problems!

I appreciate any help and feedback ..

Kind regards,

Yasser Saeed

HP Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Firmware v 1.53 Upgrade issue - DisplayPorts not working anymore !!!

$

Since our Company changed our Laptops to HP ZBook G3 we are fighting with the HP Thunderbolt 3 Dock instability.

Typically the Dock decides to stop your Mouse / Keyboard from working and sometimes you loose the use of your external Monitors attached to it and have to fight with several plug/unplug/reboot sequences until they come back to life.

After lots of struggling I did find an almost stable configuration working with multiple displays :

  • 1 x Laptop Display with 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 1 x  DELL 22" with 1920 x 1080 resolution attached to the additionalVGA port on the Dock
  • 2 x 27" BENQ GW2765  with 2560x1440 resolution attached to the 2 Display Ports on the Dock

Everything was working fine for months apart some loss of Mouse / Keyboard every since a while...

Yesterday, probably due to some Windows 7 Update I started again to have big issues with my external Monitors  and made the error of trusting the HP Update tools SofPaq download manager (Which I had first to update manually because the version I had was unable to reach HP FTP site) to let it update the System, including the Dock Firmware,  hoping that it would have resolved the problems.

That was the last thing I should have done,  I have now indeed updated all the Drivers, BIOS and software according to HP recommendations through HP SofPaq download manager and even HP Image Assistant (v3.5.21) but from the moment I performed the Upgrade of the Dock Firmware to v1.53 I have definitively and unrecoverably lost all my external displays,

After two days of unsuccessful fighting, I noticed that when I run the HP Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Firmware Multi Installer version 1.53, during the PreRequisite Check, the Synaptics DisplayPort Adapter reports "device not found", while all the other devices are now reported as "up to date"  :

DockFW.jpg

With the DisplayPort Adapter gone, clearly,  I cannot see any of the Monitors attached to the Dock and... I also discovered that downgrading back to any of the previous version of the Dock FW is impossible !  The Dock is not even recognized as attached from previous Fw installers !!!

My Docking station now has turned into a stupid and expensive Brick only useful to charge the PC and attach a Mouse and  a Keyboard while I am back with a bunch of display cables attached to my Laptop, this is unacceptable !

Is there any way to recover the DisplayPort Adapter device, somehow reviving it as it was working since before the Firmware upgrade or, in the worst case, to revert back the Dock firmware to Factory Default ???  Maybe a magic power-on sequence that force it to reset as new ?

I really do hope some of the HP gurus will be able to provide a solution.

Thanks in advance for any help... will be highly appreciated.

Elitebook 840 G5 Keyboard Options

Hi,

The maintenance guidbook for the HP Elitebook 840 G5 states that there are two backlit keyboard options: L14377-xxx (backlit) and L14378-xxx (backlit, privacy).

What is the difference between the models and what does "privacy" mean for the keyboard. I know that the laptop has a privacy screen feature, but what does the keyboard have to do with it?

The background of my question is that I will get this laptop from my employer, but I do not like the keyboard language variant it is shipped with. I want to replace it with a US layout and wonder what I need to order now. In this respect there is another potential problem. It looks like that the US layout version (L1437x-001) is not really available from the usual suspects in Europe. Any Ideas where to order it?

best regards, Jörg

We tested two working HP 2013 UltraSlim Docking Stations with updated firmware without success.

The problem:

The main problem is that if we close the lid to put the notebook to sleep and than we use the power on button on docking station to wake the notebook up the displays connected via displayports starts moving vertically (up and down) very quickly. In some cases it starts flickering up to a point where it's impossible to even shutdown the computer.

We want to know if there is any kind of incompatibility problems with Philips 271S7QJMB and docking station.

https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/271S7QJMB_75/brilliance-lcd-monitor

What would be the best compatible docking station with EliteBook 840 G5 Notebook PC?

We are using 2x Philips 271S7QJMB set resolution between two displays is 3840x1080 sometimes we also use the laptop display as additional display resolution 1920 x 1080.

After resuming from sleep, Wifi icon does not respond, will not connect to new networks until reboot

Note, this question looks similar to others but I seem to be experiencing different symptoms.

Most of the time I am using this laptop docked, so I am not sure when the behaviour started. Despite having a care pack, I cannot recreate the problem for a support tech to help with as it natrually happens when on the move and connecting/disconnecting to/from many Wifi networks.

After resuming from sleep, the wireless network icon in the tray appears to be active, and the mouseover text reads the name of the last connected network (even though it will be long out of range). However, clicking the icon does nothing. No slide-out dialog appears, and in Settings, the Wifi section is not present.

I have tried

- installing the latest Intel drivers

- Reverting to earlier drivers

- Uninstalling Proset

- Reinstalling Proset

- Changing the settings for the network adapter under "Power management" in Device Manager.

All with no luck. It is as if a service that deals with network connection manis refusing to start again after sleep resume.

Any suggestons very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Warranty dispute

I recently purchased a Probook and the warranty information is incorrect, it says it is expiring sooner than it should be. According to the instructions below there should be a link to dispute the warranty after checking the status but the link isn't there. I also can't find any number or email to contact HP directly. Does anyone know how to get this resolved?

System 90B error on startup

$

I have followed the advice about updating the BIOS for my system and I did that in the last 5 days.

I have used a Dyson vacuum clear hose to try and clean the vent grids and the fan.

Unfortuntely I'm still getting the same screen on startup. I have also done a hard reset many times in the past fortnight. The fan also makes some noises when it first boots up as if its vibrating or rubbing against the case.

I think my machine needs a strip down and replace the fan itself but can the fan be separated from other elements. Is its replacement have to include other parts, as I've seen some youtube video which include heatsinks wihch appear to be physcially connected.

Where do I go to next in terms of sourcing parts to get this fixed?

Thank you for reading my post.

Ian.

M.2 SSD drive and Windows10 driver (slow)

$

Hello.

I have an HP Probook 450 G5 that comes with an SK Hynix PC401 M.2 SSD drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit uses for this SSD drive the standard Microsoft Driver version 10.0.17134.1 of 21/06/2006

The first problem is that it does not achieve the performance expected: it barely hits 900MB/s on sequential read, with an average of 590MB/s, when the drive is supposed to hit 2500MB/s . Do you have an updated driver for Windows10 I can use?

Second problem is that I wish to update to October 2018 W10 version but Windows Update Assistant says it is not possible to install on an external USB drive (?!)

For first problem I have tried to update the driver through Device Manager > Update Driver but there is no new driver available to download. I've checked the Software&Drivers page at hp.com support with same result (no driver to download).

For second problem I've tried the solution pointed here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3083627/internal-sata-drives-show-up-as-removeable-media
But as an M.2 interface it is at "Location 8" so can't apply.

Any help would be appreciated! Thx.
