My laptop won't stay on

So 2 nights ago, my laptop fell off of my bed as I was going to sleep and the battery pack popped out (my laptop was asleep/hibernating at the time). I didn't notice the battery had fallen out until the next morning (yesturday).  After starting it up, everything appeared to be fine. About 10-20 minutes later, it shut off without warning. I thought it was odd because I had my laptop cooling pad plugged in and it has never once overheated with it in. I tried to turn it on again, but after 1 minute of starting up and getting to the windows logo, it shut off again. I attempted holding down the power button with the charger and battery removed to reset the power, but that didn't seem to work. A few times it mentioned that it was shutting off for strange reasons and asked me to do a windows repair thing (sorry I can't be more descriptive). So I tried that twice and it managed to ask me "Would you like to perform a system recovery?". I clicked yes to that, but a few minutes later it shut off again without completing the repair/recovery.  I'm hoping someone could either diagnose the problem (I think it has something to do with the power) or refer me to someone in the North Bay California area who can.

Details:

HP Pavilion M6

Windows 7

AMD Processor (can't remember what it is, but I have between 2 and 3 GHz)

6gb RAM

Thank you to anyone who took the time to look at this!
