HP Support Assistant - A restart is required

Hi All,

I would like to report couple of issues I have faced while I have been using the HP Support Assistant tool for the last 7 months.

Issue 1: When I set "Never check for updates or messages" and run a manual check for updates the HPSA does not show me any updates.

But when I change the setting to "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to download and install them" and re-run the check the HPSA finds and proposes me new updates.

Why is it behaving like this?

This setting is intended to define if an automated check it wanted or not, is not it?

Issue 2: I installed the latest version of HPSA i.e. sp58915 and run it to check if there were any updated drivers/ software for my HP Probook 4540s.

It found and proposed a BIOS update which I downloaded and installed.

Once the installation finished the "Restart is required" message was poped-up, I pressed "Restart now" and the system was restarted.

After successful restart the same message poped-up again when I tried to launch the HP Support Assistant.

The only solution was to uninstall and install the HPSA.

This solved the problem and I managed to launch it, but it was working fine until the moment when a new IDT HD Audio driver update was found and installed.

Once the audio driver was installed and the systems was restarted the "Restart is required" message poped-up again and again every time when I tried to launch the HP Support Assistant.

As you can guess the only working solution was to uninstall and install the HPSA.

Is this a bug or feature?

My OS is Windows 7 Professional (32 bit)
