I was asked by a friend to take a look at her out of warranty g7-1075dx. She mentioned the fan didn't seem to be working. Pressing the power button it lights up. The wifi key also lights amber. You can hear the fan crank up then idle down. That is all of the indicators. No boot, no BIOS screen and no beeps of any kind.
I suspected the motherboard and heat damage. I ordered a replacement motherboard. While replacing it, I blew out the fan assembly and got a LOT of debris. I'm sure the cooling was hindered quite a bit.
After replacing the motherboard, when I hit the power button, I have the exact same indicators. So now it
has to be either the cpu or RAM. I don't like shotgun repairs so I posted to see if anyone else has experienced the same issue with this laptop model. And what you found to be the problem. Or if someone more familiar with this laptop can shed any light on these symptoms and what I SHOULD replace next. Again, power button illuminates, wifi button illuminates amber, fan starts then idles down. Nothing on screen at all and none of the typical startup beeps.
