Hi all,
Help me please. I have had my HDX 16 - Premium series, model NV035UA#ABC. Last year my system crashed withe the hard drive dying, everything else works fine I only get the no bootable device error. So I changed the hard drive and 2 weeks later the same thing happened. Frustrated I left it in the back of a drawer and finally saw it 2 days ago and decided to try and fix this thing. It was a pretty good computer.
couple things I noticed before the hard drive died.
1. both times some files out of my downloads folder started dissapearing
2. computer started running slower at the start up
3. for a while I would be able to get the computer running if I hit it a couple times (cave man style)
- also when I would unplug the hard drive and plug it back in it would start working for a little bit. and after that, if it started windows, it would just crash, saying this is missing, that is missing, and eventually leading to the blue screen of death.
I have done some reading and I have come to a conclusion that it is 1 of two things
1. Motherboard started sending too much current to the hard drive causing it to die twice in the same way and I guess this would be a motherboard issue
2. I have a virus or something on my bios and I would need to flash my bios before I try another hard drive. My problem here is that the only bios flash I can find, on the HP website, can only be installed via Windows.
Guys please help me figure out what the issue is. Chances are that I am way off on both my diagnosis and I would love to be sure what the problem is and how to fix it before I spend another $80-$100 on a hard drive. anything helps even if it is info on how to flash bios without windows, or ways to troubleshoot this or a good antiirus software that might tell me if bios is infected or if I can save my existing hard drive... Anything helps and any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you all in advance. i have added a pic of the bios main screen if it will help.
