dvd player malfunction

this was my initial post:

I have a Pavilion sv7-406 1 nr, I have lived without the blue ray capability for a while because I heard the upgrade was kind of a pain. So yesterday I finnally came to the hp support site found the upgrade info and installed the Cyberlink software as specified. The first time I put a dvd in it took a very long time ( over 7 minuets ) just for the program to open. once it did it directed me to update the cyberlink program yet again so I clicked that pop up and was redirected to the cyberlink site again and downlaoded and installed it. REstarted my machine put a disc in ( non blue ray) and again 7+ minets till the program opened and it will not play the disc. niether will windows media player or the mediasmart program. tried other discs, same thing. I know my machine is not new but I am dilligent with all other updates ( microsoft, hp, anti-virus, anti-virus/anti-malware etc.). All other functions seem to work fine. I understand that the stidios change the "programming" on the discs all the timeand that my machine is not brand new but, it is really annoying to have spent $1000.0+ on a machine and not beable to quickly and esily patch/upgrade direct from hp without all these issues.Oh and I am running windows 7 for an OS. Thanks

As advised in the hp relpy I did this:

Ok, I restored it to a point about a week before all this when I did the last "Tune Up" and all was fine. (I check for all updates diligently as the machine is not always online at scheduled update times). Mediasmart loads now when a dvd is inserted in the drive (albeit very slowly) then it does not autoplay as it did before and when i select play with the mouse a message pops up to say the content cannot be played because it is protected. I have tried older movies and newer ones both non bluray and both had been played on this machine before. As to why I downloaded the Cyberlink software to begin with I wanted to play bluerays (it IS a bluray drive) and this very site said to do that. so then I went back to the reply and followed the link to the HP site that checks what updatess are available for my machine. I loaded and installed the update MediaSmart update amd now when I put a dvd in mediasmart loads, says it is loading the disc and never goes any further. Waited 25 min. it was still loading had to manually remove disc to shut down mediasmart as well because it would not respod to any input. Any suggestions?
