Hello,
I have an old HP 620 that I would like to use as just an internet surfer and music player (Spotify etc) with Windows Vista installed on it, but I need to first update it's hardware and software. This is where my problems come in.
When attemping to install any drivers manually, automatically or even through the Windows Update system, the drivers never install--particularly for the video card and something called "Unknown Device" that when attempted to be installed, both report back that "Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family" was unable to install due to I/O failing. This error occurs with any method of installation. Drivers for the ethernet and wireless installed but gave me errors during installation yet appear updated in the Device Manager. However, using Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor (the errors were there for Win7 too, which is why I thought to reinstall fresh) it states none of my drivers have been updated.
Without the drivers installed I cannot upgrade, not only this, but my resolutions (using a Sanyo HDTV as my monitor) only gives me 800x600 and 1024xXXXX set ups while constantly reminding me I don't have a video card driver installed, smooshing the screen and blurring the text beyond regonition as well.
Am I doing something wrong here? I've never had a problem like this before. Installing drivers and updates on Windows never gave me such a headache.
I can get images of the errors (there are a few alternate messages) if this would help. Lastly, I would like to know if this particular laptop is picky abouy RAM upgrades. I currently only have 3GB in the system and would like to upgrade to at least 4GB but have read it only prefers HP or Kingston RAM.
Thank you all for reading,
P.S
