I turned it on, opened Internet Explorer and noticed a small message at the bottom from HP - "Would you like to update now or later?" - since I'm staring at Google home page, I decided to click the "Update Now" and continue . . . but. . . the next message that immediately popped up and said "Updating your Keyboard and Mouse. Do no turn off your computer". And the counter appeared "60...59...58..."
Well, having experienced Nigerian email scams before, I noted the above grammatical typo and decided to click "cancel" which didn't work. I tried desperately to stop it. Close the computer. Shut down. Nothing worked. I reached up under there and pulled the battery out. Whew! No way was a virus or nigerian scam gonna infect me!
Well, it seems HP has released an authentic updater with a grammatical error. My bad. Now my laptop won't start up. Pressing the start button simply iniates a 12 second loop in the boot sequence before turning off and then beginning again. And again. And again. To stop it I have to hold the start button down.
My IT friend suggested "Flashing the Bios" but that didn't help. The caps lock simply blinks and then the loop begins all over again.
Have any idea how to start this thing up?
Thanks,
Geoff-
