Hi, I have a
Hp pavilion dv6 notebook PC
x64-based PC
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz, 2201 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
8GB Installed RAM
My notebook also has switchable graphics, with Radeon (TM) HD 6770M 2.0GB that it uses for high performance mode.
I cannot for the life of me install radeon's new graphics drivers. I tried following this guide step by step: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/GUIDE-Update-AMD-Mobility-Radeon-drivers-to-fix-graphics/td-p/1406655
But I get completely stuck on step 6, I have no clue how to acheive this. I obviously installed the HP drivers that automatically comes with this EXTREMELY OLD VERSION of radeon's graphic drivers. Whenever I attempt to game, the game lets me know that my drivers are out of date and tells me to go to the AMD website to download the newest version.
Here's the thing, trying to use the installer directly from "support.amd.com" doesn't work because it tells me it is incompatible and refers me to my notebook manufacturer (hp of course). So I tried instlling the file directly for the HD radeon 6000 series here: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/downloads.aspx
After waiting an hour for my internet to download the files, it succeeds and I set up the installation. However, during the install, a message pops up saying: "Application Install: install package failure!" So I view the logs to see what package has failed. It was the very first package it attempted to install: "AMD Catalyst Install Manager" And it refused to install anything else since that package failed.
I'm not sure where I went wrong, I followed the guide completely. Afterwards I tried uninstalling the old AMD drivers that HP provided, I reboot, try to install the newest version again, still the same exact error message.
PLEASE HELP! I REALLY WANT TO GAME WITHOUT THE THING CRASHING AND FREEZING CONSTANTLY
