A few days ago when I booted my notebook, my system fan spins constant giving a loud noise.
At the same time my battery would not charge anymore (battery would stay at 1%)
Later after switching the battery with another notebook, I concluded that the battery is dead and needs to be replaced.
The fan however is another problem. Immediately at boot time the system fan spins at high speed constant. Even when it has booted completely and the cpu usage is very low.
I thought the cpu heat might cause it to spin constant. So the solution would be to clean the vents.
I'd expect that the fan would generate more noise over time, but this happened instantly.
The notebook is now 18 months old and always kept in a clean environment.
To verify that the heat caused the problem, I downloaded the application "speedfan" and saw that the cpu operates at 36 degrees celcius. This is quite low and would not be a reason for the fan to spin at high speed.
My next suspect is the BIOS. This might be some sort of bug in the BIOS. So I updated the bios to the newest version (F.60 rev.A). After the update I resetted the bios to its default settings.
Unfortunately this didn't solve anything.
My first guess is now that the notebook suffered from some sort of power peak, causing the battery to die and inflict some damage on the motherboard which causes the fan to spin constant at high speed.
Has anyone experienced something similar or has any suggestions?
